SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS
Tips to help you remain safe in the event of a tornado watch or warning

Please remember that if you hear the sirens go off outside, you should head to the lowest level of your building immediately.

When a tornado watch is issued, this means that conditions are such that a tornado is possible.  The RAs will knock on doors to alert students to be attentive to the weather. An email will also be sent to your community. When a tornado warning is issued, this means a tornado has been sighted in the area, and you should take cover immediately. A tornado siren will sound in this instance. RAs will head to the lowest level with all of the students - they will not knock on the doors again. Please listen to the radio or the alarm sirens for up to date information and for when the all clear has been given. Just because the sirens stop sounding, does not mean that it is safe to leave your location; sirens will only sound for the first 3 minutes as a warning to seek out shelter and await more information.  Also, be mindful that the base sets their sirens off for different instances than the University sets their sirens off. You are encouraged to only listen to the on campus emergency sirens.

If you are on campus, you should proceed to the tunnels or to an interior room on the lowest floor.

In all communities, you will want to get to know your neighbors now so that they are willing to let you in if emergency strikes.

Honors & Hamilton

In Honors and Hamilton, begin to fill the laundry room first, then the hallway and then the rec room.

The Woods & The Village

In The Woods and The Village, the safest place is the bathroom of the rooms on the 1st floor. If you do not know someone on the first floor, the hallway is the safest place. An RA will let you know when it has been communicated by the Police that an all clear has been given.
