Housing Sign-Up for 2012-13

All students in campus housing have the choice to stay in the same room for next year (Room Retention) or move on to another room (Room Selection). Typically students live in our Residence Halls their freshman year, then move to one of our on-campus Apartment Communities once they are sophomores. The apartments focus on providing students the support services they are used to, whicle allowing them private space to grow as an individual.

Upper Class Honors Housing

What is the Honors Building?
The University Honors Program and the Office of Residence services are partnering to make College Park 2160 a space specifically for residents in the Honors Program who would like to live together in a fully furnished apartment with four private bedrooms, two baths, a full kitchen, washer, dryer, and more!  For more details, rates, floor plans, etc. go to http://www.wright.edu/housing/options/college.html.  All of the apartments in the Honors Building are single-gender apartments.

Who is eligible?
Current residents in the Honors Program are eligible.  These individuals will be able to ‘pull in’ others who they want to have as roommates, including friends (whether they’re in Honors or not, regardless of their current residence on or off-campus) and transfers who plan to attend WSU next year.

How do I sign up?
Sign up by logging onto www.wright.edu/housing on returning to this page on February 17th or 18th.  There will be a link to a web form that includes the following necessary information:

  • * Name
  • * UID Number
  • * Name & UID for each other group member
  • * What is your personal reason for applying for Honors Housing?
  • * How do you know the other individuals in your group?
  • * How will your group communicate and resolve conflicts that arise?
  • * What other issues has your group determined may exist, and how do you plan to resolve these issues?
  • * What programs and opportunities would you like to see offered in the Honors apartment community next year?
  • * What programs and opportunities would you be willing to plan for the Honors apartment community next year?
  • * My signature below indicates that I have read and understand the attached information about Honors Housing at Wright State University and consent to each of the bullet points
  • * A Pre Payment of $150 must be paid at the time of application to complete the Room Selection Process.  Failure to pay this on time may result in cancellation of the assignment.  That space may be made available to other qualified residents.
  •  * I understand that the Office of Residence Services can reassign residents as needed.

What about Room Selection?
Students in this program will get the privilege of choosing their housing before Room Selection; however, residents must make a pre-payment of $150 at the time of application.   Any remaining spaces in this building that are still open after February 18th may be filled during Room Selection on a first come, first served basis by other students.  We will consolidate assignments to encourage and support the success of the primary group in the building via programming and other activities focused on their academic interests and related topics.

What other information can you provide about the Honors Building in College Park?

  • Individuals are not allowed to sign up for Honors Building.  You must sign up as a group of four and rent each of the four bedrooms in the apartment at the same time.   Individuals will only be assigned in order to fill an unexpected opening.
  • Individuals that are interested in the community but do not have enough group members to fill an entire apartment will not be assigned until they fill all four bedrooms in their apartment.  Partial requests will be placed on and provided a “Free Agent” list of other individuals interested in this type of community from which they can select a roommate.  Once all group members consent to living together through the application process, an apartment can be chosen.
  • Transfer students interested in the Honors Building will be placed on the “Free Agent” list, unless there is a mutual request (everyone approves) by the other residents requesting to live together.
  • Groups will be assigned to their specific apartment unit by the Office of Residence Services.  If your group has a special request, please indicate that at the bottom of your application, and we will grant it as we are able.
  • Room changes will be authorized on a very limited basis.  Groups are strongly encouraged to utilize the Unit Standards process to begin to discuss their expectations of one another before applying.
  • Each individual in the group must meet the requirements to live in College Park to be authorized to apply to be a part of the Honors Building.
  • A set number of apartments in one building will be offered for the Honors Building on a first come, first serve basis.  The program may be expanded when demand exceeds the initial allocation.
  • The Office of Residence Services reserves the right to allocate unused apartments in the building for same gender housing if the building is not filled by a designated date.
  • Honors Building groups will select their units after Room Retention, but before Room Selection take place.  Some residents may be asked to accept reassignment after Room Retention in order to clear a building for the program.  They will be assigned before the general Room Selection takes place.
  • Should a roommate cancel their future housing assignment following Room Selection but before the end of the academic year, groups will be asked to fill their apartment within 5 business days of the individuals’ departure by contacting the Office of Residence Services with the name of the individual they would like to have move in with them.  All remaining apartment members must consent to the new individual(s) joining their unit
  • Partial groups, resulting from cancellations, which fail to fill a vacant space within 5 business days may lose their apartment if other full groups are waiting to be assigned.

Mixed Gender Housing will be offered as of Fall, 2011, in one College Park Apartment building (to be determined) and must be requested by current, qualified residents during the Room Selection Process.  Residents will not be assigned to this Upper Class Learning Community without their prior request.

This program is designed to be both a safe environment for the GLBTQA community and a place where friends of different genders, regardless of their sexual orientation, are permitted to live together.  Dating and committed couples, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, are strongly discouraged from living together in the same apartment.

  • * Individuals are not allowed to sign up for Mixed Gender Housing.  You must sign up as a group of four and rent each of the four bedrooms in the apartment at the same time.   Individuals will only be assigned in order to fill an unexpected opening,
  • * Room changes will be authorized on a very limited basis.  Groups are strongly encouraged to utilize the Unit Standards process to begin to discuss their expectations of one another before applying for Mixed Gender Housing.  The end of a friendship or a dating or committed relationship will not be an authorized reason to initiate a room change.
  • * Individuals interested in this housing option are strongly encouraged to participate in an informational session held by the Office of Residence Services prior to Room Selection.
  • * Each individual in the group must meet the requirements to live in College Park to be authorized to apply to be a part of the Mixed Gender Housing Building.
  • * Siblings are allowed to participate in this program as roommates.  This is not intended to be a replacement for Family Housing, which is located in The Village, since each individual must be a registered student and will be charged the College Park rate.
  • * A set number of apartments in one building will be offered for Mixed Gender Housing on a first come, first serve basis.  The program may be expanded when demand exceeds the initial allocation.
  • * Groups will be assigned to their specific apartment unit by the Office of Residence Services.  If your group has a special request, please indicate that at the bottom of your application, and we will grant it as we are able.
  • * The Office of Residence Services reserves the right to allocate unused apartments in the building for same gender housing if the building is not filled by a designated date.

  • * Individuals will not be randomly assigned to Mixed Gender Housing.
  • * Individuals that are interested in the community but do not have enough group members to fill an entire apartment will not be assigned until they fill all four bedrooms in their apartment.  Partial requests will be placed on and provided a “Free Agent” list of other individuals interested in this type of community from which they can select a roommate.  Once all group members consent to living together through the application process, an apartment can be chosen.
  • * Transfer students interested in Mixed Gender Housing will be placed on the “Free Agent” list, unless there is a mutual request (everyone approves) by the other residents requesting to live together.
  • * Four individuals with the same gender are permitted to share an apartment within the Mixed Gender Housing area, but may be assigned to other communities if there is not sufficient space within the community.
  • * Should a roommate cancel their future housing assignment following Room Selection but before the end of the academic year, groups will be asked to fill their apartment within 5 business days of the individuals’ departure by contacting the Office of Residence Services with the name of the individual they would like to have move in with them.  All remaining apartment members must consent to the new individual(s) joining their unit.
  • * Partial groups, resulting from cancellations, which fail to fill a vacant space within 5 business days may lose their apartment if other full groups are waiting to be assigned.
  • * Should a roommate move out and the group decide to select an individual of the same legal gender as all other members, the group will not be forced to move out of the community.
  • * The Resident Assistant for the Mixed Gender Housing Building is authorized but not required to have individuals of mixed genders live with them.
  • * The Residence Life staff has been trained to handle roommate conflicts and incidents of discrimination.  Should issues arise within a unit or in the community, the staff will assist in resolving the issues in a timely and intentional manner.
  • * Individuals in Mixed Gender Housing are expected to watch a webinar and answer an online questionnaire based on the webinar before moving into the community.  During the first week, all individuals must participate in a building-wide meeting with the Residence Life staff and a unit meeting with all members of their group.  Failure to meet these expectations by the dates set by the Office of Residence Services could result in an individual or a group being removed from the community.
